What to see in Alatri: a guide to the village

Acropolis, cyclopean walls and medieval lanes: a walking itinerary from our apartment.

Glimpse of Alatri’s old town

Alatri is one of the most charming villages in the Ciociaria. Its heart is the Acropolis, enclosed by imposing megalithic (cyclopean) walls among the best preserved in Italy: climbing up at sunset offers sweeping views over the Sacco Valley.

In the old town, steps from Le Caraffe, the Co-Cathedral of San Paolo and the Torretta Gottifredo are well worth a stop. Getting lost in the lanes is the best way to discover workshops and views.

For lunch, look for the trattorias in the centre and the flavours of Ciociaria cuisine. With the apartment as your base, everything is within easy walking distance.
